Board Feet Explained

A board foot (BF) is the standard unit for measuring hardwood lumber in North America. One board foot equals a piece of wood 1 inch thick, 12 inches wide, and 1 foot long (144 cubic inches). Our calculator handles any dimensions and supports quantity calculations for multi-board orders.

Why Moisture Content Matters

Wood properties change significantly with moisture content. Strength increases as wood dries below the Fiber Saturation Point (~28% MC). Understanding these changes is critical for structural applications, furniture making, and proper wood selection.
